The Opportunity
KSB Technologies Ltd successfully undertook and delivered a transformative project for Ofgem, a governmental body responsible for the energy sector. Our team developed a greenfield RESTful API Solution (Central Switching Service or CSS), an event and queue-based system designed to streamline and expedite the process of gas and electric switching for consumers. This robust system provided next-day registration, facilitated swift switching, improved address matching using Ordnance Survey AddressBase® Premium (ABP) data, and offered enhanced reliability of the switching process through superior management and oversight of industry data.

Event-Driven System

DevOps Practices
Our team made use of Yaml, Arm Templates, and Terraform for efficient build and release pipelines, ensuring seamless deployment and updates.
Automated Testing
The solution’s reliability was validated through automated tests written using Cucumber, Node.js, and JavaScript, ensuring bug-free deployment and optimal performance.
The Impact
In addition to the API solution, we also developed a greenfield Manual Addressing website using Angular 10, Material Design, and .Net Core 3.1. This platform empowered Market Participants to override addresses while connecting to the Ordnance Survey AddressBase Premium data. We deployed a robust security protocol in accordance with OWASP standards. The system architecture utilized autoscaling Azure Function Apps for swift response times, and implemented an Azure Build and Release pipeline using Terraform. Moreover, the system featured comprehensive logging with unique correlational IDs for tracking each request end-to-end. Unit testing was conducted using Jasmine and GUI testing with Selenium feature files.
